What exactly is an EHCP?

So what exactly is an EHCP? An EHCP is an acronym which stands for Education, Health, and Care Plan which is a legal document in the United Kingdom that is there to support children and young people aged 0-25 with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

An EHCP describes a child/ young person's individual needs and specifies the support and provision needed to help them achieve their educational and healthcare goals. They are for children/ young people whose needs can't be met via the usual SEN support in their

educational setting.

EHCPs are adapted to each childs individual needs, and they are also legally binding, which means that local authorities and schools/educational placements must provide the support and provision specified in section F.

Whilst an EHCP can seem like a complicated document which is overwhelming, its purpose is fairly straightforward.
